How it works
MASTERSHOT® is a dynamic shooting competition that challenges participants across multiple disciplines, testing their versatility and marksmanship.
The competition now follows a postal shoot format, allowing shooters to participate from their own ranges while competing for the prestigious MASTERSHOT® title.
- Shooters compete across 8 firearm types but must select 5 disciplines to enter.
- Scores are recorded and submitted remotely, ensuring accessibility for all participants.
- The shooter with the highest average score across their 5 chosen disciplines will be crowned MASTERSHOT® of the day.

In terms of the South African Firearms Control Act, the general public may license four different types of firearms.
These types are manually operated rifles, handguns, shotguns and self loading carbine type firearms which is not fully automatic.

Shooting sports is a collective group of competitive and recreational sporting activities involving proficiency tests of accuracy, precision and speed in using various types of ranged weapons, in forms such as handguns, rifles, self loading rifles and shotguns.
Each of the types of firearms have different applications and style of use. This could relate to the the target type and distance and shooting position.
